Samsung will have a full range of 2017 MU models from the 9 series and down to complement its more expensive Q line-up. The MU9, MU8, and MU7 will replace last year’s popular KS models and are now shipping in the US and Europe.
Samsung 2017 MU models
The “QLED” LCDs will be available in 7, 8, and 9 ranges and Samsung will, alongside the Q models, also offer more affordable MU models from the 9 ranges and down.
The MU models are obviously 4K TVs. Samsung will furthermore label them with “HDR1000” to indicate that they can reach 1000 nits peak brightness, just like last year’s popular KS models. The TVs are edge-lit LCD TVs with support for two HDR formats (HDR10 and HLG).
The Tizen operating system offers access to services such as Netflix, HBO, Amazon, YouTube etc. via apps. The “One Remote” can control other devices connected through HDMI. In Europe, all three are also equipped with twin tuners.
MU9000, MU8000 & MU7000
The flat MU9000 will be the most expensive version and be available in 55 and 65-inch sizes, starting at $2000 dollars in the US. In Europe, MU9000 is curved whereas it is flat in the US.
MU8500 is a curved TV whereas MU8000 is a flat model that will be available in screen sizes up to 75 inches. Prices for the MU8 models start at $1200 in the US. Samsung will also sell curved and flat version of MU7 dubbed MU7500 and MU7000, respectively. Prices for MU7 models start at $700 dollars for a 40-inch version. MU7500 and MU8500 will not be available in Europe.
As you can see, the MU models are considerably lower priced than the quite expensive “QLED” LCD models.
Samsung will as usual sell a myriad of 6 series models. Variants of MU6 are based on the same base chassis but have different designs and features.
Most of the Samsung 2017 MU models are now shipping in the US and Europe. The smallest and largest screen sizes will follow in the coming weeks.
