Oppo’s second UHD Blu-ray player, UDP-205, was created with audiophiles in mind. Besides excellent picture quality in HDR10 and Dolby Vision, it supports a range of audio formats and ports.

Like Oppo’s first UHD Blu-ray player, UDP-203, the new UDP-205 will conform to the UHD Blu-ray specification with mandatory support for the HDR10 format. In addition, Dolby Vision playback will be added with a later firmware update.

However, the real reason why the company created UDP-205 is to cater to audiophiles. The player has two HDMI outputs, including one for audio. It also has analog 7.1 audio outputs based on an ESS SABRE digital-to-analog converter (DAC). In addition, the player offers analog RCA and XLR connectors as well as optical and coaxial digital audio outputs. Another DAC powers the headphone jack.


A range of disc formats are also supported, ranging from UHD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, 3D Blu-ray, and DVD to SACD, DVD-Audio, and CD. There are many more features built-in so check out Oppo’s webpage for full specifications.

The Oppo UDP-205 is available from oppodigital.com but you have to deeply appreciate all the effort that Oppo has put into audio features because it is certainly not cheap. The company is charging $1,299 dollars.
