Vizio has started rolling out a firmware update to the 2017 E series models that adds support for HDR10 streaming as well as a new on-screen side bar menu. A later update will add YouTube TV.
Netflix, Vudu & FandangoNow
The update will enable HDR10 on Vizio’s mid-range 2017 E series TVs from 55” and above. HDR10 content will be available from Netflix, Vudu, and FandangoNow as well as via the HDMI ports.

Vizio highlights that its E series models are better equipped to display HDR because they, unlike many other LCD TVs, use backlit LED with local dimming (up to 16 zones).
YouTube TV will be added with a second firmware update in “the coming weeks”.
In addition, users can now access all picture settings via a new on-screen side bar menu using the TV’s remote control. In the past, adjusting picture settings required using Vizio’s app on a mobile device.
- “The addition of on-screen menu access to picture settings also provides added value to SmartCast users, enabling convenient control from the new included remote on our 2017 E-Series models,” McRae added.
The new firmware should be available to download now. Vizio’s 2017 E series TVs are available from vizio.com and amazon.com.
