Amazon Video now supports 4K HDR on Xbox One S

22 May 2017 | Rasmus Larsen |

Xbox One S is the first game console to gain the capability to stream Amazon’s TV shows and movies in 4K resolution and HDR (High Dynamic Range).

Amazon in 4K & HDR

Amazon offers a handful of TV series and movies in 4K resolution and HDR. Until now, the best quality has been available only on a select few screens such as Samsung, LG and Sony Smart TVs.

Amazon and Microsoft are now bringing support to the Xbox One S with the latest app update for the Amazon Prime Video. In the announcement, Microsoft only mentioned support for 4K resolution but FlatpanelsHD has confirmed that the update also adds support for HDR, as can be seen in the photo below.

- “Amazon Video fans can now watch their favorite shows and movies in stunning 4K UHD on their Xbox One S with the latest Amazon Video app update,” Microsoft said in the announcement. “Sit back and watch Amazon originals such as Bosch, Sneaky Pete, The Grand Tour, and Man in the High Castle and more all in stunning 4K.”

Besides Amazon, Xbox One S offers 4K and/or HDR via the built-in UHD Blu-ray drive, Netflix, Hulu, and Vudu. Sony’s PlayStation 4 Pro supports Amazon in up to HD resolution.
