One of the most unique TVs of 2017 – and one of the most expensive – can now be yours. LG has launched its 2.5mm thin W7 ”wallpaper OLED” in the US and Europe.
A unique OLED TV
LG W7 was unveiled at CES in January and can now be experienced in select stores across the US and Europe. It is available in 65” and later this year a 77” version.
The screen is an incredible 2.5 mm thin and weighs so little that it can hang on the wall with only magnets. To make it possible, LG has moved electronic components, including for the first time the TCON (timing controller for the display panel), and all ports out of the TV into a separate soundbar. The soundbar also delivers Dolby Atmos sound, says LG.

The OLED panel has been developed by LG.Display, which is currently the only manufacturer who can mass-produce OLED TV panels. LG.Display is a subsidiary of LG and its position allows the Korean company to be at the forefront of new display technology.

Despite the thin profile, picture quality is intact. W7 delivers the same picture quality as other 2017 OLED ranges from LG, meaning 4K resolution and HDR, including Dolby Vision. From the webOS platform you have access to apps such as Netflix, Amazon, and YouTube in up to 4K HDR quality.

The 65” version (OLED65W7) is available now in the US and Europe. The 77” version (OLED77W7) will launch later this year. But W7 will certainly not come cheap. You will have to reach deep into your pocket because W7 is positioned squarely in the luxury segment to compete with brands such as Bang & Olufsen and Loewe.
