Later this month and next month, Sony will add two affordable 4K ranges in sizes from 42 to 70 inches to its 2017 line-up. Prices start at $900 dollars.
4K TVs without Android
X690E (60 and 70” sizes) is basically an extension of X720E (43, 49 & 55” sizes). The main difference is that the former has direct LED backlight while the smaller sizes use edge LED. Besides that features are identical.
The main thing to know here is that the two new cheaper 4K ranges ditch Google’s ’Android TV’ operating system. All of Sony’s more expensive 4K TVs come with Android TV onboard.
If you can live without Android on your TV, you still get Sony’s 4K X-Reality Pro chip, support for HDR in software, 3 HDMI 2.0 ports, and built-in Netflix and YouTube apps.
The two new ranges are the US equivalents of the XE70 announced for Europe earlier this year. X720E will be available in the US late June and X690E in August. The TVs will be available for pre-order from Amazon and Best Buy soon, the company said.
