Vudu has announced that it will release an app for Apple TV. The company says “stay tuned for a fall release”. It also shared the first screenshots.

We missed this during Apple’s WWDC 2017 conference but the company officially announced it in a brief blog post.
- “In honor of all things Apple today, we thought we’d share a couple of screens from our Apple TV app that’s in development. We want to bring you the best possible app and Vudu experience, so we’re still tweaking and fine-tuning – but stay tuned for a fall release,” the company wrote.
The company also released the first screenshots from the app. As you can see, it allows you to watch your movies but it is a little unclear if it will be possible to rent or buy movies directly on Apple TV. Vudu may limits purchases to the web and other devices to avoid paying Apple a cut of its revenue.
One detail worth noting is that the app will include Vudu’s free ‘Movies on Us’ section that was launched in October 2016. Here you can watch movies such as Mad Max and True Grit in HD quality for free with commercials.
Vudu has been working on the app for some time but this is our first glimpse of the user interface. It is not clear why it has taken so long to develop the app but the fall release could mean that it will launch alongside the rumored 4K/HDR capable Apple TV. Vudu already offers content in 4K and HDR quality.
