Philips has released its new 4000 to 7000 series LCD ranges in Europe. Highlights include Ambilight, Android, 4K resolution, and a single model with Philips’ new advanced P5 video processor.
2017 LCD TVs from Philips
Philips TVs in Europe are developed and sold by TP Vision. These are European mid-range models that will not be sold in the US. The new 7502 range sets the tone for 2017 with Ambilight, Android, and 4K resolution. Additionally, it is the first model to feature Philips’ new ‘P5’ video engine.
As you move down into the 6000 ranges, you lose Ambilight and ‘Android TV’. 4K resolution on the other hand is available in almost every model. As usual, Philips will sell various design versions with more powerful speakers and Ambilight.
Later this year, a new flagship OLED TV will be released alongside a new 8000 LCD series that will be Philips’ first with quantum dot technology.

All 4K models come with built-in support for two HDR formats (HDR10 and HLG) but we should stress that while HDR is easy to support in software, it is very hard to support in hardware. None of these TVs live up to the minimum requirements defined in ‘UHD Premium’. The only model in Philips’s 2017 line-up to meet the ‘UHD Premium’ certification is the coming POS9002 OLED flagship.
