Plex Live TV, which was launched in June 2017, is now out beta and has arrived on Apple TV and Android with a new “time-shifting” feature that allows you to pause and rewind live TV.

Plex Live TV allows paying Plex users to connect an antenna and stream live (unencrypted) channels to TVs and mobile devices. With a hard drive you can also record shows for later watching.
These features are now available in the Plex app for Apple TV as well as mobile Android. At launch a couple of months ago, Plex Live TV was made available on Android TV and iPhone/iPad. It is now out of beta on these platforms.
The company has also added time-shifting features on top of the DVR. This allows you to pause and rewind live TV, in addition to recording programs.
As Plex ventures further along this path, it will have to compete with mastodons such as Amazon, Apple and Google who are also trying to aggregate content from a variety of sources and present it in a unified way on its respective TV operating systems FireOS, tvOS and Android TV. Plex is said to have just “shy of 14 million” paying customers, according to TechCrunch.
The company said that the new features are “coming soon” to Roku, Fire TV, and Smart TVs, too.
Plex Live TV and DVR is available in the US and Europe. To get started you need a compatible tuner. In addition you need to subscribe to Plex Pass, which costs $5/month, $40/year or $120/lifetime.
