The 88-inch model is Samsung’s largest “QLED” LCD TV to date. The company said that as consumers continue to demand larger screens, it wants to solidify its position in the ultra-premium TV market.
Largest ”QLED” LCD TV
Samsung earlier this year released the Q9, Q8, and Q7 ranges of LCD TVs branded as “QLED TVs”. Q9 is the flagship and the South Korean company is now adding a mammoth 88-inch model to the mix.
- “At Samsung, we are aiming to expand our footprint in the ultra-premium TV market with our ultra-large QLED TV models that embody the perfect combination of technology and art,” said Jongsuk Chu, SVP of Visual Display at Samsung.
Q9 is based on an edge-lit LCD panel with 4K resolution and support for HDR but without a local dimming system, which is often employed in flagship LCD TVs from competitors such as Sony and Panasonic.

Samsung said that Q9 “features superb picture quality and performance as well as a sleek design developed with consumers’ living spaces in mind”.
- “With their superior picture quality and innovative features, we are confident that our QLED TV lineup will continue to drive sales and solidify Samsung’s leadership in the global TV market,” Jongsuk Chu added.
With the release of the 88-inch, Samsung now offers a full line-up of 55 to 88-inch premium TVs. The company also released a more affordable 82-inch MU8000 model in June.
88-inch Samsung Q9 is available now in the US for $20000 dollars, and will be released in Europe later this month.
