In response to the new Apple TV 4K, Nvidia has dropped the price of Shield TV box to $179 dollars by excluding the game controller.

The cheapest option for Nvidia Shield TV (16GB) used to be $199, which includes the box, a game controller, and a remote control. Nvidia will start selling a version without the game controller for $179.
That price, of course, matches the new Apple TV 4K. You can thank increased competition for that. Nvidia was early to the party but over the last couple of years the 4K HDR space has become more crowded, which is good news for consumers.
There is nothing new to say about the Nvidia Shield really. Despite the lower price, it is the same box as before with a powerful graphics processor – now matched by Apple TV 4K – and support for 4K resolution and HDR10. Nvidia Shield runs Google Android TV and also has a heavy focus on gaming but you need the game controller for that. It does not support Dolby Vision.
The cheaper Nvidia Shield can be pre-ordered now and will start shipping on October 18.
