Buyers of Microsoft’s Xbox One X have been complaining about issues with the UHD Blu-ray player, including raised black levels in HDR. Microsoft says that a fix is only “few days away”.
Update 17.11.17: The issue that related to the video range for Blu-ray output has been corrected on Xbox One X and Xbox One S. Mike Ybarra wrote yesterday November 16: "Tomorrow morning at 8am PT a new build for Xbox One family will release. Xbox Wire had details, but also fixes blu-ray issues" Microsoft has yet to comment on the Dolby Atmos issue.
Will fix raised blacks
Microsoft launched the Xbox One X last week and while many have praised its gaming capabilities, the console’s Blu-ray features have been plagued with issues, including a bug relating to the range of the HDR output that resulted in raised – or grey – blacks during video playback.
Microsoft is aware of the issue and will issue a software update very soon to fix it.
- “Xbox One X users - Blu-Ray specific fixes coming very soon to correct raised black levels with HDR movies, etc. Few days away," said Mike Ybarra, Corporate Vice President, Xbox.
Unlike PlayStation 4 Pro, Microsoft has included an UHD Blu-ray drive in both the Xbox One S and Xbox One X. The new console is capable of outputting in 4K HDR from streaming, disc, and games.
Users have also identified issues with the console’s Dolby Atmos output, as detailed by Forbes. It is not clear if Microsoft will address this issue with the upcoming software update.
Xbox One X is available now across the US, Europe, and other regions.
