Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy, Interstellar, Inception, and Dunkirk are now available to buy and rent on iTunes in 4K Dolby Vision. The Nolan Collection was also released today on UHD Blu-ray – in HDR10 format.
Dolby Vision on iTunes, HDR10 on disc
One would have expected Christopher Nolan to release his best work in the best possible HDR format on disc. Instead, iTunes now offers 6 of Nolan’s 7 remastered films in Dolby Vision whereas the discs include “only” HDR10.
Dunkirk arrived on iTunes in 4K Dolby Vision on December 12. The remastered The Dark Knight trilogy, Interstellar, and Inception have just been added. The only one missing is The Prestige.

30 Dolby Vision titles on UHD Blu-ray
190 Dolby Vision titles on iTunes
The launch also highlights the growing divide between the number of Dolby Vision titles on iTunes and on UHD Blu-ray disc. There are around 30 released, or announced, Dolby Vision titles on UHD Blu-ray and close to 190 Dolby Vision titles on iTunes.

Of course, online distribution offers flexibility. Hollywood studios can at any time add a better version to the catalog but something else is afoot. It appears that several studios are actually prioritizing iTunes over UHD Blu-ray discs when it comes to Dolby Vision.
The Dark Knight trilogy is available to purchase for $34.99 dollars on iTunes, which is a pretty decent price considering that they can be enjoyed in 4K Dolby Vision quality. Now all we need is Apple to start offering lossless Dolby Atmos audio.
So, there you have it. Apple started offering movies in 4K and/or HDR on iTunes in September 2017. The catalog has grown to include more than 300 titles in record time, which is pretty impressive. We maintain an updated list of all 4K HDR titles on iTunes.
