TCL unveils 6 series Roku TVs with FALD & Dolby Vision

TCL’s new 6 series TVs will replace last year’s popular P series and be available in 55 and 65” sizes. They will feature more dimming zones, improved picture quality, and Dolby Vision.

TCL has stuck to its formula with the Roku platform, full array local dimming, and 4K HDR, including Dolby Vision. However, there are updates, the company said at CES.

One update is the larger 65” screen size. Another update is the number of local dimming zones. The 55” 6 series now has 96 zones (up from 72) whereas the 65” has 120 dimming zones. This is not a major improvement but it helps. Peak brightness should also be slightly higher and a new iPQ engine should deliver more accurate colors.

- ”iPQ Engine provides precise color replication and HDR Pro Gamma to significantly improve HDR performance in any setting,” the company said.

Another change is the design, which is now matte metal. As the new name suggests, the 6 series will remain a mid-range TV. The 6 series also features a voice remote that will help you search for content via Roku’s new voice assistant developed for home entertainment use.

Additionally, TCL has announced a more affordable 5 series for 2018. It will feature 4K resolution, Roku OS, Dolby Vision, and come in sizes from 43 to 65 inches.

- ”TCL’s totally new 5-Series marries superior 4K UHD picture quality with Dolby Vision for a stellar imaging experience.”

Exact pricing was not announced but TCL said that the 55” 6 series will cost more or less the same as last year’s model. The new TVs will be available from spring.
