Despite protests from now Foxconn-owned Sharp, Hisense will continue to sell a line-up of TVs under the Sharp brand. This year, it will launch the Q8000 with Alexa baked in as well as more affordable TV ranges.
Sharp 2018 TVs
The Q8000 is the most capable model and comes equipped with 4K resolution and a form of local dimming. Hisense did not provide full specifications but did say that the Q8000 TVs will be compatible with Amazon Alexa.
In addition to the Q8000, Hisense will launch a Sharp-branded Q7000 range of 43 to 65-inch TVs. These come with 4K resolution and support for HDR but otherwise looks fairly basic. Lastly, it will launch low-end Q5000 and Q3000 ranges of HD TVs.
Foxconn has accused Hisense of selling “shoddily-made” Sharp TVs and has said that these TVs destroy the Sharp brand. Foxconn has taken the case to court. Ever since Foxconn acquired a majority stake in Sharp, the company has been trying to cancel the license agreements that are currently in place.
Hisense controls the Sharp TV brand in the US through 2020 while UMC holds the rights to the brand in Europe.
The Sharp Q8000 and Q7000 models will be available in the US in April. Pricing was not announced.
