It is the second UHD Blu-ray player from Panasonic to include both Dolby Vision and HDR10+. In addition, the company says that it delivers “unparalleled sound” via analog outputs.
UHD Blu-ray for audiophiles
In addition to its other new UHD Blu-ray players for 2018, Panasonic has today announced a flagship model that will carry model name DP-UB9000.
Like the more affordable UB820, it will support both of the premium HDR video formats; HDR10+ and Dolby Vision (to be enabled via a later software update). Both of these take advantage of dynamic metadata to improve picture quality, particularly highlight and shadow details
There are some 30 Dolby Vision titles available on UHD Blu-ray but none in HDR10+ yet. 20th Century Fox and Warner Bros have committed to HDR10+.
What sets UB9000 apart from UB820 is “unparalleled sound”, the company said. It is designed to deliver pristine analog audio output, and caters to the audiophile crowd.
- “In addition to the high picture quality of its HCX Processor, the reference-class UB9000 offers extremely high sound quality thanks to its analogue audio circuits, including a dedicated audio power supply, a high-performance D/A converter, and XLR balanced output. Housed in a newly-developed vibration-reducing chassis with high rigidity and lower position for the centre of gravity, the UB9000 produces excellent sound quality,” the company said. “This exciting new model raises the bar for AV enthusiasts with the highest-ever picture and sound quality in the history of Panasonic Blu-ray Disc Players.”
UB9000 is THX certified and offers two HDMI outputs, one for video and one for audio. Additionally, it offers popular streaming apps with support for 4K resolution.
Panasonic’s 2018 UHD Blu-ray line-up comprises five models ranging from flagship to affordable. Two of them will support Dolby Vision, three will support HDR10+, and four of them will support Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, enabling you to control video playback via your voice.
The company has confirmed that UB9000 will launch in Europe. Pricing details were not announced.

AC/DC Conversion Circuit
The use of a positive/negative, isolated power conversion circuit for audio provides a high dynamic range, and reduces the voltage fluctuations and noise caused by digital circuits. In addition to this, high-quality audio grade electrolytic capacitors and a newly developed OFC (Oxygen Free Copper) switching transformer decreases the impedance of power.
10-Line Isolated DC Regulator Circuit
The digital and analogue power supplies for the D/A converter are isolated. The analogue channel is further separated into 2 channels and 7.1 channels , and for the 2-channel output, the reference voltage of the left and right channels is isolated, making a 10-line regulator circuit and reducing mutual effects to improve distortion. Moreover, high-quality audio grade electrolytic capacitors are used in the analogue channel to minimise noise. |
Analogue Audio Circuit
High-Performance D/A Converter
A high-performance D/A converter with input compatibility, high S/N, and high dynamic range is provided for each of the 2 channel and 7.1 channel circuits.
Special Circuit Board for Analogue Output
The analogue circuits for 2 channel and 7.1 channel output are mounted onto special glass-epoxy circuit boards. Together with the use of quality components, such as low-noise operational amplifiers and audio grade electrolytic capacitors, a totally balanced signal transmission is achieved by using differential circuits all the way from the D/A converter output to the XLR output terminal
