'The Last Jedi' will be Disney's first Dolby Vision UHD Blu-ray disc

’Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ will arrive on March 13 online and two weeks later on UHD Blu-ray, Disney has confirmed. It will be the studio's first UHD Blu-ray in Dolby Vision.

The movie, written and directed by Rian Johnson, claimed the number one spot atop 2017’ list of highest-grossing films. It also appears to have divided audiences. Nevertheless, there is good news for Star Wars fans as the latest installment in the series will include the best in video and audio.

Disney/Lucasfilm has confirmed that the UHD Blu-ray version that will be released on March 27, 2018, will include both Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio.

- “This release marks Disney’s first title available on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc in both Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos immersive audio, delivering consumers a transformative viewing experience,” the studio said.



But you will need a little patience if you are planning to grab the disc. As noted in our article yesterday, Hollywood continues to delay its disc releases – and Disney is no exception. ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ will arrive on streaming services on March 13, “two weeks before the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, and Blu-ray disc on March 27”, Disney noted. It is almost as if they are encouraging customers to buy the online version.

It is a little unclear whether the online version will also be presented in Dolby Vision but it is certainly plausible. Last year, Disney reserved Dolby Vision for the online version on Vudu. iTunes does not currently offer any Disney, Pixar or Lucasfilm movies in 4K HDR.

In addition, the movie will come with tons of extras, including commentary by Rian Johnson, deleted scenes, motion capture takes, and much more.
