Panasonic fixes OLED micro stutter with firmware update

The TV maker has released a firmware update to fix the sporadic micro stutter issue that we discovered in our review of the EZ950 OLED. It has to be installed manually via a USB device, according to a report by AVForums.

Fix for EZ1000 & EZ950
The new firmware (version 0.29) was released yesterday and is compatible with all European variants of the EZ950 and EZ1000 2017 OLED models, including the UK EZ952 and EZ1002 and the German EZW954 and EZW1004.

The firmware is meant to fix a sneaky and sporadic issue with micro stutter (or motion stutter). FlatpanelsHD discovered the issue in our review of EZ950 where we noted: “However, we did experience an issue with micro stutter on some 1080p sources, and no combination of IFC or other settings could fix it. We noticed the issue with both broadcast and streaming content but not with 4K content and Blu-ray”.



- "Panasonic is today pleased to announce that a new version of software, version 0.29, is now available for 2017 OLED models (EZ952 & EZ1002). The new software is designed to improve a variety of performance aspects, specifically related to motion, and is the result of extensive testing and market feedback," the company said in a statement.

It took more than half a year to address the micro stutter issue but it is nevertheless good to see that Panasonic has taken the concern seriously.

Firmware version 0.29 must be downloaded manually from Panasonic’s support page and installed via a USB device as per the following instructions.

Firmware update procedures:
Step 1: Check the current version of firmware used by your TV.
Step 2: Download an updated version of the firmware and double click the downloaded file to decompress it.
Step 3: Copy the firmware file onto a USB flash memory.
Step 4: Install the firmware update.
