After Apple iTunes, Amazon Video, Google Play and Vudu, FandangoNow is the fifth online retailer to throw its weight behind digital movie locker service Movies Anywhere.
Movies Anywhere expanding
Movies Anywhere is a Hollywood-backed digital movie locker. The service stores all of your digitally purchased movies. In addition, any movie you buy will flow between services, meaning that if you buy Star Wars: The Last Jedi on Amazon Video it will also be available on your iTunes account.
FandangoNow is the first online retailer to join the imitative after it launched in October 2017 with support for four online retailers. Movies Anywhere covers a library of “nearly 7500 movies”.
- "We are thrilled to welcome FandangoNOW, a go-to online destination for movie fans, as our newest digital retailer. Movies Anywhere is rapidly revolutionizing the way that consumers access and enjoy their digital movie collections. The app has been used to store over 100 million movies to date. The popularity of Movies Anywhere is largely due to the extraordinary content, including exclusives and promotions, and the support provided through our growing list of online digital retailers," said Karin Gilford, General Manager, Movies Anywhere.
You can synchronize movies from Disney (including Pixar, Marvel and Lucasfilm), 20th Century Fox, Sony Pictures, Universal (including DreamWorks and Illumination Entertainment), and Warner Bros. Paramount and Lionsgate are still not participating.
Movies Anywhere is free to use but you must agree to share your usage data, including viewing and purchase history. The service is currently available only in the US.
To get started you need to create a Movies Anywhere account and then link you accounts to online retailers via the interface. The digital locker is built on Disney’s ‘KeyChest’ technology that previously formed the foundation of now-closed Disney Movies Anywhere.
