Warner Bros has confirmed that The Matrix will be released on UHD Blu-ray and online in May. It has been remastered in 4K with Dolby Vision. It also includes Dolby Atmos and lots of extras.

Ready to take the red pill?

The Wachowski siblings’ science-fiction classic was first released in 1999. The remastered version has been supervised by director of photography, Bill Hope, to ensure the best possible outcome.

Warner Bros confirms that remastered version of The Matrix has been produced from a new native 4K scan of the original 35mm film. It will be presented in Dolby Vision HDR for expanded dynamic range and colors. In addition, it will include object-based audio in Dolby Atmos.

The release will include lots of extras, including a written introduction by the Wachowskis, several audio commentary tracks, as well as ‘The Matrix Revisited’, ‘Follow the White Rabbit’, and ‘Take the Red Pill’. Here is the official cover.

The Matrix

Only the original The Matrix has been confirmed in 4K HDR. Warner Bros has yet to comment on the two sequels.

The groundbreaking movie is one of many remastered titles that are scheduled to be released on UHD Blu-ray and online. In the past weeks, we have reported (1, 2, 3) on 2001: A Space Odyssey, the Jurassic Park Collection, Gladiator, Braveheart, and Saving Private Ryan. You can expect many more throughout 2018 and beyond.

The Matrix will be re-released on May 22 on UHD Blu-ray and online. Update: It is now up on amazon.com.
