Netflix enhances parental controls

16 Mar 2018 | Rasmus Larsen |

Parents will get more granular control over what content family members can access on Netflix. The company will show PG ratings more prominently and also allow parents to activate PIN protection for specific content.

Enhanced PIN protection

Netflix’s library spans a range of genres and while it is possible to create a profile for every single member of the family, parental controls have been fairly crude to date.

Netflix allows parents to set a PIN code based on the PG rating (Parental Guidance), or alternatively set a PIN code for all content. The next step is “PIN protection for a specific series or film”, the company announced.

Netflix will also start showing the PG rating in the top left corner of the screen as soon as you start video playback. The PG rating is accompanied by some keywords to explain the PG rating level.

The company says that the new features “are part of our continuous efforts to keep members better informed, and more in control, of what they and their families choose to watch and enjoy on Netflix”. Enhanced parental control will roll out too all members across the global markets in the coming months.
