Sony 2018 LCD TVs
X900F in the US, and XF90 in Europe, is the successor to last year’s popular X900E series whereas X850F (XF85 in Europe) will replace X850E. We have already reviewed X900F (XF90), which has received our Highly Recommended Award.
The 2018 LCD TVs are now available in the US and Europe. X900F has an upgraded full array local dimming system, 4K resolution, Android TV, and Dolby Vision (via a later firmware update). It has also been designed to match one of Sony’s new soundbars.
- “The X900F 4K HDR TVs will support Dolby Vision via a firmware update to be delivered within this year. To bring sound to the next level, the X900F TV is designed perfectly to match Sony’s new Dolby Atmos sound bar, the HT-X9000F.”

The X850F has an edge-lit LCD panel with 4K resolution as well as Android TV. It will not support Dolby Vision.
These TVs are designed to compete head-to-head with other mid-range to high-end LCD TVs on the market, including Samsung’s new “QLED” LCD TVs. This year, several manufacturers have decided to adopt full array local dimming systems. Besides Sony, Samsung will include it in its Q8 and Q9 models, LG in its 9 series models, and TCL in its new 6 series model.
