Paramount has confirmed that it will bring the classic Forrest Gump starring Tom Hanks as well as Terminator Genisys starring Arnold Schwarzenegger to UHD Blu-ray in June.
More catalog films
Both movies will be released as special 3-disc editions that will include lots of extras. Robert Zemeckis’ Forrest Gump was first released in 1994 and won 6 Oscars. Terminator Genisys was first released 2015.
Paramount has remastered the movies in 4K resolution, HDR10, and Dolby Atmos. The studio did not confirm whether it has made a new film scan and a full restoration in true 4K resolution of Forrest Gump that was filmed in 35mm. Terminator Genisys was filmed on Arri Alexa (2.8K).
Studios are hard at work to polish up catalog titles for release onto the UHD Blu-ray disc format. We can expect to see lots of catalog titles released this year, including The Matrix, 2001: A Space Odyssey, the Jurassic Park Collection, Gladiator, Braveheart, Saving Private Ryan, and others (1, 2, 3, 4).
The majority of the movies also show up online on services such as Apple iTunes, Google Play Movies, and Vudu in 4K HDR quality – typically a few weeks prior to the disc release. Paramount has yet to confirm an online release for these two titles.
Forrest Gump and Terminator Genisys will both be released on June 12 in the US, and are available for pre-order here and here. The latter was already available in Europe and the former will be released on June 14 in Europe. They are listed in Germany here and here.
