TCL 5 series TVs
China’s TCL has been winning market share in the North American TV market in recent years. This year, the company will try to cement its position with affordable TVs packed with sought-after features.
The new 5 series LCD TVs will be available in 43 to 65-inch sizes, all with 4K resolution and Dolby Vision (and HDR10). Rather than develop its own software platform, TCL has partnered with Roku.
- “As we continue to innovate, we’re able to produce televisions engineered with features that maximize technologies which already exist in our sets like Dolby Vision and the Roku OS to deliver outstanding performance at an incredible value,” Chris Larson, SVP of TCL North America said earlier this year at CES.
The LCD TVs from TCL are designed to compete in the mid-range segment, which is today dominated by 4K LCD TVs that claim HDR compatibility. With the advent of HDR video, many manufacturers have started implementing full array local dimming, which is required in order to reproduce decent HDR pictures.

TCL’s 5 series TV do not have hardware for HDR but the company’s upcoming 6 series – the successor to last year’s much-acclaimed P series – will include full array local dimming technology. TCL has just announced that the 6 series TVs will be available in May.
TCL’s 2018 5 series is available now in 43 and 55-inch sizes from Best Buy. The 65-inch model will be added to the line-up soon.
