Bang & Olufsen is discontinuing an iconic TV design

Bang & Olufsen is discontinuing one of its most iconic TV designs in recent times. The rectangular-shaped and reclining design that has spanned BeoVision 10 to 14 is no longer in the line-up.

Danish luxury company Bang & Olufsen has been making TVs for decades and while sales have been relatively insignificant compared to the megabrands, it has held its spot in the market by creating distinguished TVs made from quality materials and with powerful speakers.

One of the best known designs is the iconic TV that was introduced in 2009 with BeoVision 10. In 2012, the company polished the design with BeoVision 11 that also featured new picture technology, and in 2016 it introduced BeoVision 14 with added oak lamellas and 4K resolution.

It ends here. Bang & Olufsen is currently phasing out the BeoVision 14.

- ”It is true that we are phasing out BeoVision 14 but it is still available in stores,” the company confirmed in a written statement to FlatpanelsHD.

That is 9 years if you are counting. We are, and we therefore made the following gantt diagram, which reveals that BeoVision 7 (LCD) and BeoVision 4 (plasma) are the ones that come closest with their 8-year lifespans – at least since B&O introduced its first flat screen TV in 2002.

How many other TV designs on the market have lasted for almost a decade? We don’t have the answer but we know that most TV designs from top brands have a 1-2 year lifecycle in them.

With BeoVision 14 out of the picture, Bang & Olufsen will have a total of three TV models in its line-up: BeoVision Avant NG, BeoVision Horizon, and the latest BeoVision Eclipse OLED model.
