LG has announced a new line-up of gaming monitors under the UltraGear moniker. These are ultra wide 21:9 monitors with IPS LCD panels. The flagship has Nvidia G-Sync.
Ultra wide gaming monitors
LG remains committed to gaming monitors, the company said in the announcement. To prove its point, LG will introduce a portfolio of so-called UltraGear gaming monitors at the IFA show later this week.
- “LG’s monitors have been setting standards in the industry for many years and LG UltraGear will be no exception,” said Chang Ik-hwan, head of LG’s IT Business Division. “Announcing our UltraGear monitors at Europe’s largest industry event is demonstration of our confidence and excitement about this new brand.”
Only the flagship 34-inch UltraGear monitor (34GK950G) was detailed but LG tells us to expect a line-up of ultra wide 21:9 format monitors. The curved flagship monitor “boasts the most powerful features in the line-up”, the company said. It has an IPS LCD panel with 3440x1440 pixels and 98% DCI-P3 coverage. It also supports Nvidia G-Sync with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz (overclocked).
LG did not mention HDR (High Dynamic Range) compatibility. In the PC space, HDR remains mostly a Fata Morgana due to the overall low contrast of PC monitors. The game console segment on the other hand has embraced HDR with open arms.
- “Gamers can create their own unique ambiance with Sphere Lighting that boasts six color settings to complement any game or movie,” the company added.
LG will bring the new UltraGear monitors to the IFA 2018 show that starts later this week.
