Plex launches 'Web Shows' section with free video content

Plex has announced Web Shows, which is a new section in the Plex app that gives you access to free video content from various partners.

The company says that the new web shows section will feature the “latest in sports, celebrity, pop culture, food and wine, cooking, science and tech, music, home and garden, gadgets, and more”.

- ”Today, we’re happy to announce the third phase of our master plan for galactic domination: Web Shows (in beta). In a nutshell, we’ve partnered with a number of media producers to bring you high-quality episodic video content inside Plex! We’ve seeded our catalog with lovely, curated shows from only the highest quality creators; no robotic “top ten life hacks” or sparkly slime spam, and we’re looking forward to growing our catalog with your help,” the company said.



The company confirms that it has partnered with publishers such as Condé Nast, Bonnier Corp., Fandor, Future, TWiT, Jukin, and Studio 71, including shows from Saveur, GQ, Field and Stream, PC Gamer, and Engadget, with “many more to come”. Some shows include The Pet Collective, Epic Meal Time, and People are Awesome, which are also available for free on YouTube.

Plex already offered free podcasts and news in its app, besides all of the features for playback of local media content. Plex Web Shows is currently in beta and is free.
