Airtame announces version 2 of its HDMI dongle

The Danish company has announced an upgraded version of its HDMI mirroring dongle. It has faster hardware and improved WiFi.

In 2014, Airtame launched an indiegogo campaign to fund its first HDMI dongle. The company had planned to create a consumer product that could be used to wirelessly mirror your desktop to another screen. After several delays, the company changed its focus to the business market. Airtame says that it has now sold over 100,000 units.



Airtame 2 is built on the same basic idea. It allows you to mirror your PC screen onto a TV or projector. It is still targeted for businesses and schools but consumers can of course use it, too. It works by installing an app on Windows, Mac, Linux or Chromebook that allows you to mirror the full screen or a specific window only. It also supports screen mirroring from iOS via Airplay. Support is planned for Android. Furthermore, it is possible to mirror your desktop to multiple screens at once.

The company explains that Airtame 2 has faster hardware, including WiFi with better range and improved stability. It has four times the RAM and a refreshed look. Airtame 2 supports up to 1080p60 mirroring and stereo audio.



Airtame 2 must be connected to a TV or projector via HDMI. It can be attached to surface via a magnet and includes a Kensington lock. 

The device offers some of the same functionality as Apple’s Airplay mirroring and Google’s Chromecast mirroring features but Airtame argues that it provides more flexibility, better OS support, and a wider range of features.

Airtame 2 will be available in mid-November for $400 dollars. More information is available on airtame.com
