Our favorite media player app for Apple TV has been updated to version 5.9, which includes new features such as Airplay 2 audio output, revamped cloud streaming integration, new subtitles options, and more. Infuse 6.0 will be released in “early 2019”.
New features in Infuse 5.9
One of the major new features in Infuse 5.9 is support for Box, Google Team Drives, and OneDrive for Business. The developer said that “cloud streaming has been totally revamped in 5.9”, allowing you to stream your video and media files from the cloud rather than a local hard drive at home.
Another new feature is support for Airplay 2 that allows the viewer to wirelessly output TV audio from Apple TV to Airplay 2 compatible speakers, including HomePod, Sonos, Bang & Olufsen, and others.
- “Infuse on Apple TV now features full support for AirPlay 2 and HomePods. Seamlessly connects with one or more AirPlay devices right from the Audio tab of the Playback Menu while playing a video,” the company said.

By swiping down from the top of the remote’s touch pad while watching video in Infuse you can now select all of your Airplay 2 enabled speakers. It is possible to select multiple speakers at once.
Version 5.9 also includes subtitle customization, including an option to use a transparent or solid black background. Furthermore, the latest version has been fully optimized for the new iPad Pro displays.
Infuse 6 coming in early 2019
FireCore, the company behind Infuse, tells us to expect the next big release in early 2019. The company is not saying which new features will be added in Infuse 6 but has previously said that it is planning to support Philips Hue, Dolby Atmos, Watchlists, multi-user profiles, and more.
- “Infuse 6 is coming in early 2019, and will include some fantastic new features we can't wait to share with you. Subscribe to Pro now and start enjoying all the current Pro features—then get an automatic upgrade to v6, once it's available next year! If you're already subscribed to Pro, you'll also get the new update automatically.”
After Apple’s tvOS was released in 2015, apps such as Plex, Infuse, and MrMC (Kodi port) quickly emerged on the platform. Infuse is currently our favorite due to its reliability, advanced video features (including 4K HDR), and regular updates.
