Apple has confirmed that it has signed a “multiyear” deal covering multiple films with studio A24, who has produced films such as Moonlight, Room, and Ex Machina.

Apple has yet to show its hand but the company continues to confirm production deals for TV content, including content from Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, and J. J. Abrams.
We can now add to the list upcoming films from one of the hottest film studios. Apple has confirmed to the Wall Street Journal that the agreement with A24 covers multiple films over a multiyear period. A24 will continue to produce films for theatrical release.
A24 was established in 2012 and is probably best known for Moonlight that won several Oscars, including for best picture. The studio has also produced Room, The Florida Project, Lady Bird, Ex Machina, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, Hereditary, and The Disaster Artist. Some of these titles are available in 4K Dolby Vision.
There have previously been rumors that Apple was interested in acquiring A24.
Apple’s content plans are still largely shrouded in mystery but the company has told the New York Times that it expects to debut its first content in 2019. CNBC has reported that Apple is planning to introduce a revamped ‘TV’ app in early 2019 and that at least some TV content will be made available for free through this app ahead of a full-fledged subscription video streaming service.
Besides Apple, Disney and WarnerMedia are planning to launch streaming services in 2019.
