At Finetech Japan 2018, display maker Japan OLED – a joint venture between Japan Display, Sony and Panasonic – showcased a range of OLED panels produced using inkjet printing, according to a report by OLED-Info.com.
OLED tech from Sony, Panasonic
Japan OLED, often referred to as JOLED, showcased its first printed 55-inch 4K OLED TV panel based on “OLED technologies inherited from Sony and Panasonic”.
The company tells OLED-Info.com that it has no immediate plans to put the TV panel into production. For now, it is being showcased to demonstrate the capabilities of the inkjet print production method that has the “potential for high productivity”.
The company said that the TV panel has 4K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It can reproduce 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut. Details regarding the pixel structure were not published.
OLED monitors panels & more
The company also showcased three 21.6-inch OLED panels intended for monitors. These include a Full HD version for gaming monitors, a 4K version that will be included in the soon-to-be released Asus PQ22UC, and a 4K version for medical monitors.
Lastly, JOLED demonstrated various other OLED panels, including two rigid and flexible displays for automotive use, a 27-inch 4K panel, a flexible 21.6-inch 4K panel that can wrap around a pillar, and a wall-mounted solution for the connected home.
JOLED started low-quantity production of OLED panels on a 4.5G production line in late 2017. The company expects to have a 5.5G line up and running in 2020. With Samsung having a firm grip of the small-size segment and LG Display dominating the large-size segment, JOLED will initially focus on medium-sizes OLED panels.
