Plans for the video subscription service will be announced at a March 25 event and the service is expected to launch by summer, according to the report from Bloomberg. It will reportedly include some free content along with premium TV shows and movies that would require a subscription.
Apple has been working on its video service for a number of years and Bloomberg says that it is “likely to be integrated into Apple’s TV app on iPhones, iPads, and Apple TVs”. The company’s ‘TV’ app is currently available only in a handful of countries but Reuters is reporting that the video service “is expected to launch globally”.

Reuters is reporting that Apple is in discussions with CBS, HBO, Lionsgate, and Viacom to “resell TV channels subscriptions similar to Amazon”. The idea is to give you access to streaming content from a variety of services through a unified user interface, possibly a refreshed ‘TV’ app.
- “[…] cord cutting in our view is only going to accelerate and probably accelerate at a much faster rate than is widely thought,” Tim Cook, Apple CEO said in August 2018.
Apple has reportedly invited Hollywood starts such as Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Garner, and J.J. Abrams to attend the event.
The company has already seen success with its music subscription service, Apple Music, which has over 50 million subscribers. Besides the new video service, Apple is also expected to announce a news service at the March 25 event, and is rumored to be working on a game subscription service. Disney and WarnerMedia will also launch video services later this year.
