With the latest software update for PlayStation 4, Sony has added support for PS4 Remote Play on iOS, letting iPhone and iPad owners play PlayStation gamers over WiFi. However, iOS lacks support for the Dualshock controller.
PS4 Remote Play for iOS
PS4 Remote Play was launched in late 2014 for Sony Xperia and was later expanded to PlayStation Vita, PSTV, and PC/Mac. The feature is now also available for iOS – iPhone and iPad – through a new app released by Sony.
PS4 Remote Play lets you stream PlayStation 4 games from your console to other devices. That way you can play some of the latest console games on your handheld device. With an iPhone and iPad, Sony notes that it is currently limited to WiFi connections and that it will not work over mobile networks.
Another big limitation is that you cannot pair the PS4 Dualshock controller to iPhone/iPad. Instead, you will have to use the on-screen controls or connect an MFI (Made for iOS) compatible game controller. Not all games are compatible with the remote play features.
To get started you must update your PlayStation 4 to software version 6.50 and download the PS4 Remote Play app for iOS. It requires iOS 12.1 and Sony is recommending iPhone 7, iPad (6th gen) and iPad Pro (2nd gen) or later for the best experience. There is no support for tvOS on Apple TV.
Remote Play can be enabled on your PlayStation 4 console from Settings -> Remote Play Connection Settings.
