Valve's Steam Link now lets you stream PC games from anywhere

18 Mar 2019 | Rasmus Larsen |

Valve has introduced ‘Steam Link Anywhere’ in the latest beta of Steam Link. This allows you stream PC games from your PC to any compatible device at home or on the go.

Steam Link Anywhere

Valve launched Steam Link hardware in 2015 but it has since been discontinued as Valve has refocusing on making Steam Link a software-based solution. The app is currently available on devices such as Samsung TVs, Android TV, and Raspberry Pi. A solution for Apple TV and iPhone/iPad has also been developed but Apple has rejected it.

In the latest beta of Steam Link (build 688), Valve has added support for Steam Link Anywhere, which is exactly what the name suggests. Previously, Steam Link was limited to streaming PC games over your local network at home. The new feature lets you stream and play PC games on compatible devices outside your home.

- “Steam Link Anywhere allows you to stream games to your Steam Link from any computer running Steam, as long as your computer has good upload speed and your Steam Link device has a good network connection,” the company said.

Valve, Sony, and Microsoft have all been busy building out their game streaming systems in anticipation of Google’s announcement tomorrow at GDC 2019. Sony has launched PS Now in an additional seven countries, while Valve and Microsoft have expanded the capabilities of their game streaming technologies. Google is rumored to be working on a game streaming service and possibly game console hardware.
