FuboTV adds more 4K sports, expands support to additional devices

21 Mar 2019 | Rasmus Larsen |

After having launched 4K HDR streaming last year, FuboTV – a streaming service dedicated to sports – has now added NCAA basketball to its slate. It has also expanded the list of compatible devices to include Roku, Android TV, select mobile devices, and other devices.

Sports in 4K HDR

At launch in July 2018, FuboTV supported 4K HDR streaming on devices such as Apple TV 4K, Chromecast Ultra, and FireTV. Since then, the company has steadily been expanding support to Android TV, including Nvidia Shield and Sony TVs, as well as Roku, select mobile devices (HDR only), and web browsers list (see table below).

In addition, FuboTV has added more 4K sports in the form of NCAA basketball. The company maintains a list of upcoming events in either 4K or 4K HDR. The schedule for March includes the Big Ten Tournament, the Big East Tournament, Atlanta Braves vs. Philadelphia Phillies (MLB), Fulham vs. Liverpool (Premier League football) and Liverpool vs. Tottenham (Premier League football)

It is still hard to find live sports in 4K resolution and HDR (High Dynamic Range) and even though this streaming quality it is far from the norm in the day-to-day schedule, it is great to see FuboTV continue to add more tournaments and expand device support. The company still labels its 4K HDR streaming as ‘beta’.
