Google is planning to launch a streaming service for games. Apple is taking a different approach with a subscription service that provides access to over 100 new games that can be downloaded and installed on your devices. New games will be added on a regular basis, Apple said.

- ”Over 100 new and exclusive games,” the company said. “And with Apple Arcade you will get access to all of them”

Apple Arcade will work on Apple TV, iPhone, iPad and Mac.

The company also unveiled some of the first games coming to Arcade, including Sonic Racing from Sega, Beyond a Steel Sky from Revolution Software, LEGO Brawls from LEGO and Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm from Cornfox & Bros.

Major studios as well as indie studios are participating to make their games available exclusively through Arcade. Apple said that it is “contributing to the development costs and working closely with creators to bring the games to life”. Many of the game will be playable with a game controller and you will be able to switch between devices seamlessly.

- “We are working with some of the most innovative game developers in the world to create over 100 new and exclusive games to play across iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV. Apple Arcade games will be great for families, respect user privacy and will not have ads or require any additional purchases. We think players of all ages are going to love Apple Arcade.”

All of the games can be installed on the device and be used offline. A subscription plan gives you access to the full library of games and there are no hidden costs or in-app purchases required to play the full games. Games can also be shared with family members.

- “Apple Arcade will give customers the freedom to try any game from its handpicked collection of titles that are all-you-can-play, have no ads, ad tracking or additional purchases, and respect user privacy.“

Apple Arcade will launch this fall in more than 150 countries. Pricing was not announced.
