For the first time, Netflix has revealed its "top-10 most watched". The company says that it is an experiment in the UK that may be expanded to other regions.

Our Planet, narrated by David Attenborough, is the most watched show on Netflix UK in April, according to the company's own numbers. The Perfect Date and The Highwaymen are second and third. All three are produced by Netflix.
Netflix UK has also released top-10 lists specific to TV series, films, documentaries, reality shows, and non-English shows, respectively. The company says that with "these lists we look at the most-watched individual season of a show, film or special (regardless of when it launched). 'Watched' means members finished at least 70% of one episode."
The lists are notable because Netflix has been notoriously tight-lipped about its viewership statistics. Even show-runners are kept in the dark, according to reports. Still, these are merely top-10 lists without actual viewership numbers attached, and the lists apply only to the UK at this time.
An experiment
Why now? Critics have claimed that Netflix will lose some of the most popular shows as companies such as Disney and WarnerMedia are pulling licensed content to launch their own streaming services. If we are to believe the top-10 lists released by Netflix, those critics' claims do not hold water - at least not in the UK.
In addition, Netflix says that its top-10 lists may help viewers discover new great content. As an experiment, the lists will also be visible as content rows within the Netflix app (or website) to some viewers.
- "We want to help you find as much great stuff to watch on Netflix as possible. So here’s a look at the top ten most-watched shows and films in the UK in April," the company said.
Going forward, Netflix UK will release weekly top-10 lists every Wednesday on its social channels, including the twitter profile, before deciding whether to continue the initiative and/or expand it to other regions.
