Panasonic brings HDR10+ support to 2017 TVs - updated
In 2017, Panasonic vowed to bring HDR10+ support to its range of '4K Pro' TVs via a firmware update. The company is now following through on its promise.HDR10+ for Panasonic 2017 TVs
When Panasonic, Samsung and 20th Century Fox formed the HDR10+ alliance in 2017, Panasonic said that it would bring HDR10+ support to some of its 2017 TVs while Samsung said that it was contemplating bringing HDR10+ to its UHD Blu-ray players. Samsung abandoned those plans and instead decided to exit the disc market. As time passed, it seemed as if Panasonic was also abandoning its plans but in a surprise announcement the Japanese company says that the update is now ready - two years after announcing it. Compatible 2017 Panasonic TVs include the '4K Pro' models, meaning LCD models from EX750 and up as well as the EZ950 and EZ1000 OLED models. The HDR10+ firmware update for the 2017 models is rolling out now, according to the company. Update: Panasonic has sent the following statement to FlatpanelsHD: - "The software update, to implement HDR10+ in FY17 4K Pro models, will be executed 30/07 trough NWDL (Network Download). We will support HDR10+ through HDMI and Media player, but not in Amazon prime."Panasonic released an HDR10+ update for its 2018 OLED and LCD TVs in August 2018. HDR10+ and Dolby Vision are HDR video formats that take advantage of dynamic metadata to improve HDR on a scene-by-scene basis. There is an extensive library of movies in Dolby Vision but not much content in HDR10+. In addition to 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros and Universal have committed to releasing movies in HDR10+ and recently announced the first titles. Panasonic's 2019 TVs support both HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. There are no plans to bring Dolby Vision support to Panasonic TVs from 2017 or 2018. - Source: 4KFilme, Panasonic
