LG debuts new 5K 'UltraFine' monitor designed for Mac & iPad Pro
LG is introducing its second-generation 5K 'UltraFine' monitor equipped with Thunderbolt 3 for Mac and PC as well as USB-C for iPad Pro. It also boasts DCI-P3 color support.LG 5K monitor for Apple devices
Apple has introduced its own Pro monitor but it will continue to sell LG UltraFine monitors at lower price points. The two companies say that these monitors "are designed specifically for the latest Apple products". While the previous 5K LG monitor was equipped with Thunderbolt only, the new 5K monitor (27MD5KL) offers Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C allowing users to connect a PC or Mac via Thunderbolt or an iPad Pro via USB-C (although limited to 4K60 with iPad Pro). Both connections transfer video, audio and data simultaneously. The 3 USB-C ports can also be used to charge (up to 94W) connected devices.The monitor has a 27-inch IPS LCD panel with 5K resolution (5120x2880 pixels), 500 nits brightness, and full DCI-P3 color coverage. It has been designed to meet the needs of designers, photographers, and videographers. - "Designed to meet the needs of creative designers, photographers and videographers, LG UltraFine 5K is a superior wide-screen solution that delivers precise detail and color. LG added that the monitor has adjustable height and tilt, and that "users can control brightness and volume directly from the Touch Bar or keyboard on MacBook Pro". LG's 5K 27MD5KL is available now for $1299 from Apple.
