Samsung adds 55" model to its 8K line-up

06 Sep 2019 | Rasmus Larsen |

At IFA 2019, Samsung is expanding its 8K line-up to include a 55-inch model as part of the Q900R range in the US and Q950R range in Europe.

8K spanning 55 to 98 inches

Samsung launched its first 8K TVs at last year's IFA show and at this year's show the company is expanding the line-up to include a 55-inch model. Can the human eye even appreciate the extra details in 8K compared to 4K on a 55-inch TV? If you move really close, maybe yes. Samsung, however, argues that 8K also adds a layer of realism to the picture - at least with true 8K content.

The 55-inch will be part of Samsung's Q900RB series in the US and Q950R in Europe. It will have all of the same features as the larger TVs, including an LCD panel with local dimming and quantum dot, the Tizen platform with streaming apps, AirPlay 2, an HDMI 2.1 port, and support for HDR10+. Samsung's 55-inch 8K TV is available now in the US where it carries a suggested retail price of $3500 but selling for around $2500. It is also available in Europe where it carries a suggested retails price of £4000 or 4000 Euro.
