HBO took home a total of 34 Emmys, including 12 for Game of Thrones and 10 for Chernobyl. Netflix and Amazon followed, while Apple used the opportunity to put the spotlight on Apple TV+.
2019 Emmy Awards
HBO was the big winner at this year's Emmy Awards. Game of Thrones was voted best drama series in 2019 and HBO's much-acclaimed Chernobyl won for best limited series. Amazon's Fleabag took home the award for best comedy and Netflix's Black Mirror: Bandersnatch won for best television movie.
- "A bigger winner than even GoT was HBO, which between last weekend’s Creative Arts Emmys and tonight’s Fox telecast, snagged 34 Emmys, the most wins of any network. Netflix followed with 27 on the year, while Amazon's Prime Video brought home 15," the Television Academy said.

If you count National Geographic, ABC, FX Networks, Fox, and Hulu as Disney (the company now owns all of them), Disney snagged 22 Emmys. Apple took home a single award for Carpool Karaoke. Apple also used the opportunity to tease its upcoming Apple TV+ shows, with 15-second commercial spots during the ceremony, including the first preview of M. Night Shyamalan's Servant.
The Emmy Awards show has already changed. HBO used to be the clear leader but Netflix and Amazon have become juggernauts in record time. At next year's show, Apple and Disney will be competing in earnest, underlining home entertainment's increasingly important role in Hollywood. Both companies will launch their respective streaming services in November 2019.
Emmys were awarded in 27 telecast categories plus 97 other categories at the Creative Arts ceremony last week. We have included an overview of the winners below.
