Tesla cars now have Netflix, Hulu, YouTube & Spotify

As part of software version 10, Tesla cars now have access to video streaming from Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube. The company is also adding Spotify and a new game.

Video streaming in your car
Video streaming entertainment has reached the car. Specifically, Tesla's Model S, Model 3, and Model X cars, and presumably Model Y when it launches - S3XY.

- "Get the most out of Model S, Model X, and Model 3 center displays by connecting to your Netflix, YouTube, and Hulu or Hulu + Live TV accounts to watch your favorite shows, movies and content right from your car while parked," the company announced.



The video apps can be found inside 'Tesla Theater' after updating to software version 10.0, which is rolling out around the world starting today. In addition, the update adds support for Spotify music streaming, if you have a Spotify Premium account, as well as a new game called Cuphead as part of 'Tesla Arcade'. Furthermore, Tesla is adding a "car-aoke" (karaoke) feature.

- "Version 10.0 is our largest update ever, and is yet another example of how Tesla ownership continues to get better over time," the company said.

For obvious safety reasons, video streaming will be enabled only while the car is parked. When full self-driving capabilities are approved by regulators, Tesla will enable video streaming while moving, CEO Elon Musk said earlier this year.

This is an early step for video streaming in cars. Apple and Google are also participating in the field of in-car displays with their Apple CarPlay and Android Auto initiatives. However, these are not yet enabled for video streaming.
