Sony slashes PlayStation Now price to $10/month, adds AAA games

03 Oct 2019 | Rasmus Larsen |

Sony has slashed the price of PlayStation Now from $20 to $10 per month - or $60 yearly. It has also added AAA titles such God of War, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, and Grand Theft Auto V.

Sony reacts to Arcade, Stadia

Sony is reacting to the launch of Apple Arcade and the soon to be launched Google Stadia and Microsoft xCloud game services. PlayStation Now has become much cheaper, although still more expensive than Apple Arcade at $5 per month. A monthly subscription plan to PlayStation Now is now $10, down from $20. Gamers can also pay $25 quarterly (down from $45) or $60 yearly (down from $100). In Europe, PS Now drops to €9.99 monthly, €25 quarterly, and €60 yearly - down from €15 monthly or €100 yearly. - "Following PlayStation Now’s expansion earlier this year, we have coverage for more than 70 percent of our global PS4 user base, making it the ideal time to revamp the service with a more compelling price and stronger content offering," said Jim Ryan, CEO, Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Triple A games

In addition, Sony is expanding the PlayStation Now game library to include additional AAA games. God of War, Grand Theft Auto V, inFAMOUS Second Son, and Uncharted 4: A Thief's End are available until January 2, 2020, after which they will be replaced by other titles. The company says that PS Now offers access to more than 800 PS4, PS3, and PS2 games, making it the biggest game subscription service. Apple and Microsoft each tout "over 100 games" for Apple Arcade and Xbox Game Pass. Users can stream or download games (only some titles) from PlayStation Now to PlayStation 4 consoles, or stream games to Windows PCs. PS Now used to be supported on many more devices but in 2017 Sony removed support for its own Android TVs, Samsung TVs, PS3, and other devices. - Source: PlayStation Europe, PlayStation USA
