Vizio TVs will soon support Disney+ over built-in Chromecast

20 Nov 2019 | Rasmus Larsen |

Vizio has announced an update for its TVs with built-in Chromecast that will make them make compatible with Disney+ by "early December".

Disney+ on Vizio TVs

Vizio TV owners, like everyone else it seems, want to stream Disney+. However, right now Disney+ does not work with the built-in Chromecast function. That will change very soon, the company says. - "The Chromecast built-in update will start rolling out in early December to Vizio SmartCast TVs to allow users to cast Disney+ content," the company announced. "This update will give consumers more flexibility to stream their favorite apps, like Disney+, on the TV they purchase this holiday season." Vizio TVs already support Disney+ via Apple AirPlay 2 but that requires an iOS device. Chromecast works with both Android and iOS devices as the controlling device. Vizio TVs do not come with an embedded Disney+ app.

The company is betting on its own SmartCast platform, which has limited momentum compared TV platforms such as Roku, Apple's tvOS, and Amazon's Fire TV. The company says that it remain committed to keeping its TVs updated - unlike other Smart TV makers. - "We want consumers to know that when they purchase a VIZIO TV, it will keep its value for years to come," said Bill Baxter, CTO, Vizio. "Our team is continually improving SmartCast to ensure users have the best home entertainment experience with more ways to enjoy their favorite content." The company's Chromecast update will be released in early December. - Source: Vizio
