Xbox One November update arrives with Google Assistant support

Microsoft is rolling out its annual November update for Xbox One. It includes support for Google Assistant voice commands via external devices.

Google Assistant is not embedded in the actual Xbox One console but rather it works much like the Amazon Alexa integration for Xbox One. It works in all countries where Assistant is supported, but only in English at this time.

- "We’re excited to announce the Xbox Action for the Google Assistant is now publicly available to Xbox One customers in all countries where the Google Assistant is supported. English language is available today, with additional language support coming soon," Microsoft said.

You can use voice commands to turn on/off, launch games, play videos, and more via another device such as a Google Home.

- "With the launch of the Xbox Action for the Google Assistant, you can now interact with your Xbox One in even more ways using just your voice, including the ability to turn your console on and off, launch games and apps, play and pause videos, and more, from any Google Assistant and Home-enabled smart speaker or devices, as well as the Google Assistant apps on iOS and Android."



Xbox One previously had Microsoft's own Cortana voice assistant embedded but earlier this year the company announced that it would remove Cortana integration as part of a plan to "move away from on-console experiences to cloud-based assistant".

Microsoft's Xbox November 2019 update, which is rolling out now, also includes new features or changes relating to gamertags, text filters, Mixer, dictation, menu settings, and console set-up. More information is available in the source link.
