Dell teases 31.5" UP3221Q monitor with '2K miniLED local dimming zones'

At CES 2020, Dell is teasing a 31.5-inch LCD monitor (UP3221Q) with "2K miniLED local dimming zones", which is almost double the amount of zones compared to the most advanced LCD monitors on the consumer market today.

Not much is know at this time but Dell said that the 31.5-inch LCD panel with a miniLED backlight has 4K resolution and 2000 dimming zones. That would represent the next step after miniLED-based LCD monitors with 1152 dimming zones such as those from Asus, and hopefully improve HDR picture quality on LCD monitors.



Dell said that the monitor also supports wide color gamut, although we are skeptical of its claim of BT.2020 coverage. It may very well cover the full DCI-P3 color gamut.

In addition, UP3221Q will feature Thunderbolt 3 and CalMAN calibration through a built-in colorimeter. Dell is targeting professional users working with photo, video or graphics.

The company did not announce availability and pricing details but we expect it to be very costly considering that the current 1152-zone miniLED LCD monitors cost thousands of dollars.
