Next epic nature documentary from Netflix is 'Night on Earth'

Netflix has announced that its next epic nature documentary after Our Planet will be Night on Earth that premieres globally on January 29 in 4K Dolby Vision.

Disney has acquired National Geographic and made the content available through Disney+. Netflix on the other hand seems determined to build its portfolio of nature documentaries from the ground up. 

After releasing its beautiful Our Planet documentary, narrated by David Attenborough, in April 2019, Netflix will follow up with Night on Earth in six parts later this month. It is narrated by Samira Wiley and produced in partnership with the team behind Planet Earth II.

- "When the sun goes down, a new world awakes. New technology reveals wonders of the planet in a completely new light. Across the globe we discover a hidden side to the world's greatest landscapes and animals. Night on Earth, only on Netflix. January 29th," the company said.



Like Our Planet, the upcoming Night on Earth nature documentary will be available in 4K resolution and Dolby Vision HDR. Considering the theme, it should look stunning on OLED TVs with their true blacks and pixel-level luminance control.

With Night on Earth, Netflix is also demonstrating that Our Planet was not a one-off. The company has ambitions to participate in a genre that viewers usually associate with more established players such as BBC, National Geographic, and Discovery. And Netflix certainly has the budget to pull it off.

Night on Earth will premiere globally on Netflix on January 29, 2020.
