Samsung reveals US pricing for 2020 4K TVs & some 8K TVs

Samsung's new 8K LCD TVs will start at $3500 for a 65-inch model while the new, lower-specced 4K LCD TVs are cheaper than last year's models.

Samsung's 2020 US pricingFor the last few years, Samsung has faced tough competition from OLED TVs in the 55- to 65-inch segment while it has retained a tight grip of the market for large-size TVs over 75 inches.

In 2020, Samsung will start the push towards 8K and as a result larger-sized TVs. Samsung's 8K TVs will be a little more approachable this year although still expensive. A 65-inch Q800T 8K TV will set you back $3500, which is down from last year's Q900RB's starting price of $5000.

At first glance, Samsung's new 4K Q90T, Q80T and Q70T ranges appear to be much cheaper but it should be noted that these TVs are also significantly less capable than last year's models. The Q90T, which on paper replaces Q90R, has around 100 dimming zones compared to around 500 zones on last year's Q90R. In reality, the 2020 Q90T is more comparable to the 2019 Q80R while the 2020 Q80T is more comparable to the 2019 Q70R (and so forth).

The South Korean company has yet to reveal pricing details for its high-end Q900TS and Q950TS 8K models with an almost bezel-less design. These will feature HDMI 2.1 ports but none of the new 4K models will. Samsung has not confirmed EU pricing either.

Other new features include HDMI eARC, an improved Tizen OS, a tweaked video processor, and several new audio functions including 'Q Symphony' integration with a soundbar. Samsung will also expand its line-up of lifestyle TVs and has announced US pricing details for its 2020 version of 'The Frame'.
