Huawei launches OLED TV powered by HarmonyOS

Huawei's first OLED TV comes equipped with the company's own chipset and operating system, HarmonyOS. It will initially be available in China.

Huawei's first OLED TV

As reported in late 2019, Huawei and Xiaomi were planning to launch their first OLED TVs in 2020. Huawei has now officially announced the 65-inch Vision X65 OLED TV. Huawei's first OLED TV comes equipped with in-house technology. This includes a Honghu 898 chipset developed by HiSilicon, the company's chip division, as well as Huawei's own operating system, HarmonyOS. The operating system was launched in part due to USA banning US companies from doing business with Huawei, barring it from using Google's Android TV operating system.

Huawei added that the TV features a built-in camera for tracking movement for fitness and other applications as well as TV gesture control. Korean TV makers' attempts to implement similar systems a few years were unsuccessful and later abandoned. It also has 14 built-in speakers for a total output of 75W and support for HDR.

Like all other OLED TVs on the market Huawei's TV is based on LG Display's 4K OLED panel so the Chinese company is trying to talk up other aspects of the TV. Competition in the OLED segment is expected to heat up this year as LG Display initiates mass production at its new OLED factory in Guangzhou, China.
