PS5 expected to be more expensive than PS4 at launch

Sony's PlayStation 5 is expected to cost between $450 and $550 dollars, reports Bloomberg. That would make it more expensive than PS4's launch price of $400.

PS5 to launch in late 2020

Sony has reiterated its plan is to launch PlayStation 5 in "late 2020" but the coronavirus pandemic has affected the company's promotional plans and "forced to reveal its DualSense PS5 controller in a hurried fashion", according to Bloomberg's sources. The report also stated that "Sony has struggled with its price-setting decision for the PS5 because of scarce components", which has forced it to limit the initial production run. Sony is reportedly planning to produce 5-6 million PS5 consoles by March 2021, fewer than the 7.5 million PS4 consoles sold in the two launch quarters. - "The Tokyo-based tech giant is limiting its initial production run in part because it expects the PS5’s ambitious specs to weigh on demand by leading to a high price at launch, the people said, asking not to be identified because the subject is private," said Bloomberg.

Bloomberg said that game developers expect PlayStation 5 to cost between $500 to $550 dollars, while one analyst expects it to "end up at $450 even though they would lose money at that price".
